Why Does a Medication Go Inactive / Fall Off the Active List?
print icon

All medications have a Start Date and optionally, an End Date. When you are adding a new medication entry for a patient, the system will auto-calculate the End Date from either the Encounter Date (when you are prescribing from the Encounters -> Plan -> Medications screen) or today's date (when you are prescribing from Med History -> Medications screen).

Pay attention to what the End Date is on the pop-up:

This means that on 8/22/2024, the medication will still show on the active list. However, on 8/23/2024 it will no longer show as active. You will then need to use the Show Inactive checkbox on the Medications screen to view it.

If you have already prescribed a medication, this dosage entry pop-up may not pop-up and you can only view the immediate directions:

When this happens, you will need to select the "Edit" button to see the full directions on the Medications dosage pop-up.

TIP: If you use a medication and direction often, use the plu sign (+) sign on the "Sig" line to save it to your Favorites. Then you can search in the Favorites for the medication and select the "Is Chronic" checkbox so that in the future, when you add this medication from Favorites, it will keep the End Date blank.
