Patient Reminders without adding an Appointment on the Scheduler

If you subscribe to our Automated Patient Reminders feature, you know that once you add an appointment to the scheduler, the patient will receive an Email, text message and/or a phone voicemail following your configured schedule. But, how can you remind a patient to make an appointment at a later date? These are called Patient Reminders and can be added from multiple places in the EMR and these reminders are for the staff.

Steps to add and utilize Patient Reminders:

  1. Typically when you are checking out a patient and the provider has indicated the patient should come back in a certain amount of time, you would ask the patient to go ahead and make that appointment. If the patient says they will call or need to be in front of their calendar, you can right-click the appointment and select "Patient Reminder"

2. On the Reminders pop-up, enter the date to contact the patient then use the tab key to go to the next cell, and enter a reason. You may also want to enter comments. Select the OK button at the bottom and this pop-up window will close. You reminder is saved.

3. Once the reminder date arrives, it will show on your Dashboard:

The number of overdue/due today will show in parentheses and it will by default only show the reminders entered by YOU as the Personnel.

However, you can change this dropdown to see others' reminders.

4. Once you contact the patient and schedule the appropriate visit, you can check the "Resolve" checkbox and  you will get a message to confirm you want to resolve this reminder:

Select Yes and this reminder will go away from your Overdue/Due today reminders.

You can also see Patient Reminders while in a patient chart from Patient Info -> Patient Reminders. These can be deleted, edited, or marked Resolved here as well as the Scheduler or Dashboard screens.
