Why can I not see a new CPT code on the Charges Screen?

 

This can be for 2 reasons:

1. The Start Date or Effective date of the CPT Code added to the system is after the encounter date. You can check this from Admin -> Encounter Related Lists -> CPT Code Entry. For example, this one below will not show for an encounter dated before 10/23/2022:

 

 

2. The code is not categorized into a Common Category. This means the code has been added to the system and is able to be searched from the Encounter Charges screen from the "Search Codes" tab, but not able to be seen from one of the Common Category tabs. The above code has been categorized into the "Billing Only" category. But, the following code has not been categorized since there is nothing selected for "Category":

 

 

Therefore, from the Encounter -> Charges screen, we can see the code "NSF" in the Billing common tab, but we have to use the Search codes tab to find the code "NU"

 

 

 

 

To categorize a code, you simply have to select a Category in the cell from Admin -> Encounter Related Lists -> CPT Code Entry screen for that code. It is important to remember to also select a Sub-Category if there is one for that Category. Once it is selected, it is saved:
